Inclusivity
It is the role of the TAFE to cater for all students regardless of their circumstances.
BHTAFE will support students with the knowledge that everyone has some input into the programs and their input is to be respected.
Students will be treated equally irrespective of their;
religion
sex
age
cultural differences
sexual tendencies
disabilities (phyisical/mental)
Physical demands on the students
While there is some basic understanding of technology that will be taught to the students, they will also need to be involved in some physical practices. These practices will include;
dismantling an engine
re-assembling a engine
welding of vehicle frames
fibreglassing, sanding and finishing of bodies
If students feel that they will be capable of performing such tasks, they can enrol for the whole program.
For those students who may feel they are not up to such physical tasks, they may still apply for those programs that cater more towards the theory of advanced automobile design. In these classes, the basic certificate programs incorporate the use of computers and engine programming.
How can the TAFE assist me?
If students have a learning disablility or a reason to believe that they would not be treated fairly, you are invited to talk to our councillers.
The Councillers will explain that your disability will not prevent you from learning. While the essential components of the courses of the College need to be met, the diverse teaching methods will attempt to cater for all students regardless of their circumstance.
TAFE learning strategies
The TAFE acknowledges that different students learn differently and in order that no student be given an unfair advantage over any other, various teaching methods are employed.
Some students absorb information from listening to material, others by visual means and still others by hands-on practice work.
The courses have all these elements intertwined in their methods of teaching practice so that no student need feel left out.
Furthermore all tasks, lectures and practice work notes are handed out to the students the week before the class so that students have time to read and absorb the information. There is also a facility available whereby students can receive a DVD of the particular class.
For the technologically minded students, all information is uploaded to this website so that students can gather the information at any time.
The lecturers and teachers are also made available for any student that requires assistance in any of the programs.
There is also a 'buddy' system that is designed to make the learning experience more enjoyable. Students may be paired if requested and if it thought that a buddy or mentor could assist their productivity.
Goals of the students
The student should not only embrace learning with vigor but must also feel that they can have fun in a safe and friendly environment.
The student must complete all aspects of the cirriculum to the satisfaction of the College's standards in order to pass their Certificate or Diploma.
