Environment Assessment

In this section, we identify hazardous conditions including the environment and tools used in the workshops.
It is up to the training officer on duty together with the students to check, before every session, the school teaching environment for possible safety and health hazards.

 

Hazardous Conditions include:

Spilt oil on ground
Spilt petrol
Open containers of chemicals such as paint, paint thinners etc
Frayed electrical cords
Overloaded power points
Hoists and jacks that are overdue in their maintenance
Sparks from power tools
Leaky automotive gas cylinders
Faulty air compressor
Noisy air guns
Tools left out on the floor
Waste material
Explosive gases coming from automotive batteries whilst charging
Handling of hot items such as
   headlight globes
   exhaust pipe
   exhaust manifold
Stooping under raised cars on hoists
Working for duration under raised cars
Bright lights from headlights and spotlights
Handling different chemicals
Sparks from faulty electrical wiring looms
Sparks, light, heat and smell from shorting batteries and fuel cells
Possible explosions from fuel cells and car batteries
Metal, timber and fiberglass splinters in skin

Hydraulic hoists
Measuring Instruments
Hand tools
Wheel Balancer
Wheel aligner
Trollies
Heavy motot parts
Sharp motor parts
Dirty motor parts

 

Other General Hazards

Wet floors
Dirty and slippery washroom floor and basin
Overbalanced filing cabinets
Up lifting carpet in the administration area
Cars left without being put into PARK or have handbrake on in showroom
Student lifting too much weight
Student using spanner as a hammer 

 



Environment Non Conformance Report

If there has been found any hazardous conditions in any building, this form must be completed and handed to the TAFE Safety Committee (TSC).
This will enable us to find our who or what was responsible for creating a hazard in our teaching environment.
